Editorial: 

Some days you want to write an editorial, and suddenly nothing is the way it was. A few days ago we received the news that Anke Carter passed away completely unexpectedly on 24 January 2022.

We are in deep mourning for this extraordinary person. She was not only closely connected to Central Service as a member of the advisory editorial board, but also decisively shaped the field of medical device reprocessing nationally and internationally through countless activities in professional societies, committees and training courses. Her commitment to the German Society of Sterile Supply (DGSV e.V.) in that regard was outstanding. Her vast experience and versatility always charted the course of action to be taken. A worthy listing of her activities is beyond the scope of this editorial and is also only a part of what characterized Anke Carter. [...]
